"Don't Just Stand There Say Something" is an interactive program that motivates the silent majority to speak up and say something. They come to understand that if they hear someone talking negatively about another, isolating, teasing, cyber bullying or threatening other students walking to and from school, on the bus, or in the hallway that it is important they break the silence, get involved, and help put an end to the bullying. Through actual teen stories, humor, audience involvement and ventriloquism, Mr. Eug shares several examples of what can happen if you don't get involved and how good it feels when you do. The reason most student fail to report a bullying problem is that they are afraid that they will become the next target of a bully or they feel the teachers and principals won't do anything or they don't know how to make a report. This program gives the middle school students the tools to:
The program also helps the middle school/junior high school students to realize that saying nothing is the same as being the bully. Being part of a group where one torments others is the same as being the bully. To spread gossip a student started about another student is bullying.Students learn simple strategies they can implement daily that will help empower the targets of a bully and deflate the ego of the student(s) doing the bullying. They discover how to create a student bully prevention counsel that is designed to be the eyes and ears of the teachers and principal, an active anti-bully group that encourages positive power in numbers. History/Social Studies
Mr. Eug also shares stories of hero's throughout history like Rosa Parks who stood up because she was tired of being tormented. She sacrificed many things to put an end to the disrespect of others and helped with the beginning of the Civil Rights movement. They learn about Paul Revere who actually put together a group of individuals to report any threats or violent activities during the Revolutionary War. Through these actual historic events students learn that these individuals risked their lives standing up against the bullies (establishment). Mr. Eug explains the correlation between these activists of the past and how speaking up against school bullying, getting involved and working as a positive powerful team can not only prevent and eventually eliminate bullying in their school but also they will be creating a student designed bully prevention policy that will live on as their legacy for years to come. |
