What Has Been Said About Richard Paul

Testimonials from a survey by Listen America:

Several of our teachers felt the content supplemented our curriculum. As building principal I appreciated the emphasis on the issue of bullying itself. We, as a staff, are working on providing a "bully free" school.

Richard Paul made an immediate connection with the children simply by explaining why his arm was shaped the way it was. That put the kids at ease and helped them to focus on the message of his presentation. They laughed at the antics of his program...but more importantly...I saw a lot of nods of the head when told how they can handle bullying situations (I'm sure some or many have been victims themselves).

Richard Paul has a disability that is apparent as soon as you meet him. The students were all wondering what had happened to him. He explained his disability and then brought it into his presentation. He was bothered by a bully when he was in school. He gave them truth, wisdom, and courage.

Students could repeat the message when returning to the classroom.
Mr. Paul presents a serious subject in an entertaining and fun way for the kids. They paid attention and got the message.

Richard Paul's presentation was very well received by staff and students of all grade level. In discussions afterwards, students acting, as bullies seemed embarrassed and didn't seem to realize how mean that behavior is. We will be following up with groups for bullies as well as victims. Great Job!

The presentation had such a good mix of humor and serious dialog that he really held the interest of the entire group - 1st - 5th grade.

Bullying is such a current problem. Our students could easily relate to the topic. Richard Paul gave excellent strategies for students to use when they are bullied. Lots of good feedback.

"Your program was extraordinary and has generated much discussion in our classrooms after only one day."

- Jeri Enders, Chairperson Vandenberg, Elementary School PTO

"Great Presentation! Kids are still talking about it."

- Robinson School, Grand Haven, Michigan

"It was fantastic, humorous, fast paced with lots of audience involvement!"

- Westpointe Elementary, Westpointe, Ohio

"It surely was not boring."

- Alex, Student at Chapman School

"Thanks for the fantastic presentation. It certainly was the highlight of the week."

- Dan Spear, Ferndale Schools, Ferndale Michigan

Thank you so much for coming to the Cadillac area and working this past fall. I have included the surveys some of the principals took from the schools you visited within. These were really solid evaluations, and also notice the questions I asked them about you coming back and doing a different program next year. All were in agreement....... YES!

Thanks for all your help!!!

About the It's OK to Walk Away Program . . .
I enjoyed meeting you and REALLY enjoyed your program. The teachers/students at Garrett's school are still talking about it. Quite frankly, they've never had a program of that caliber before. I hope we can do it again next year.

All the best!

Gina Black Louisville, Kentucky

Richard- Thank you so much for your wonderful performance at Stepanski on Halloween Safety...... You were a hit we are still quackin' up. I still am getting possitive feedback, not only from the teachers but students as well. I truely admire you for youe courage to have cared so much for children to make this a career, and you are soooo good at it. I will be looking forward to setting up something in the Spring i will get back to you for a date.

Thanks again, Shauna

Thank you for bringing your fun-filled performance to the Sterling Heights Public Library. The audience of 140 laughed, cheered and delighted in your humorous antics. Your "special friends" intrigued the families. What a great program to begin our Serendipity Saturday performances.

Sincerely, Judith Kotulis, City of Serling Heights Public Library

Hi Richard,

Your presentation was fantastic and I've heard many positive comments from students and staff alike. I'll be glad to pass along the survey to other staff members. Thanks again for a wonderful program presentation!

Sarah Roberts, Oakview Middle School

Richard,

I met with my staff after our Appreciation Luncheon and the consensus was that your message came through "loud and clear" - YES! I CAN!!!!. That's exactly what I wanted them to hear! ! Not only did you deliver that message, but you did it in a way that all of our students despite their individual disabilities could understand. The "universal" employability skills like be on time, look "sharp", have fun and work with your coworkers, accept constructive criticism, respect authority, etc, can never be emphasized enough with our students! I thank you sincerely for contributing to a successful event for our students, and look forward to working with you in the future.

Martha Smith, Transition Coordinator, St. Clair County RE

Students and staff both enjoyed your presentation. We laughed and laughed and later talked about what you said.

Sandie Fischer, Oakview Middle School Lake Orion

As a middle school teacher I see students worrying about everything and everyone more then they worry about themselves and I think that this opened the eyes of many students in our school.

Heather Schott, Oakview Middle School Lake Orion

Really fit our May theme of "Choose your attitude"

Ms Dallou, Oakview Middle School Lake Orion

The kids and staff had a great time. The kids were attentive and learned through laughter. It was a great performance!! Students and teachers all felt the presentation was an excellent motivational presentation for the students and implementing the attitude of "making each day count."

Sarah Roberts, Oakview Middle School, Lake Orion Community Schools

You are definitely coming back next year, the kids learned so much and are excited to learn more!

Ms. Woodward, Bow Elementary School, Detroit, Michigan
